Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to information when you use quizzing.top (BandPass Academy). It covers the site itself, the advertising that keeps it free, and the analytics used to see which study units are being read.

The short version

• Your answer history is stored in your own browser (localStorage) and is never sent to us. Clearing site data erases it.
• We do not ask you to create an account, and there is no login for readers.
• We serve advertising through Google, which uses cookies to select and measure ads.
• Server logs record ordinary request information such as IP address, user agent and the page requested, for security and capacity planning.

Information you give us

The only way to send us personal information is to email us. If you write to [email protected], we receive your address and whatever you put in the message, and we keep it for as long as it takes to deal with the matter and to keep a record of corrections. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not sell or rent your address.

Information stored in your browser

The question deck records which questions you have answered so that the answer grid and the thin progress bar at the top of the page can show your position. This is stored locally under the key prefix bandpass:v1: using the browser's localStorage. It is not transmitted to our servers, it is not linked to any identifier of ours, and deleting site data for quizzing.top removes it. The site works without it; you simply lose the progress display.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising served by Google, and the advertising partner for this site is Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, web beacons and IP addresses to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Where required, we ask for consent before advertising cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time through the consent notice on the site. Advertisements are labelled as advertising, and editorial content is never written to match an advertiser.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to count page views and see which units are read. Where an analytics product that sets cookies is used, the data is aggregated and is not used to build a profile of you as an individual. You can block analytics with any content blocker without losing access to the study units.

Server logs

Our web server writes standard access logs containing the requested URL, the date and time, the referring page, the HTTP status code, the user agent string and the IP address. Logs are used to diagnose faults, block abuse and plan capacity, and are retained for a limited period before being rotated out. They are not combined with any other data to identify readers.

Legal bases (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases under the General Data Protection Regulation:

• Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for serving the site, keeping it secure and preventing abuse.
• Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for advertising cookies and any non-essential analytics cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Contract or pre-contractual steps (Article 6(1)(b)) where you email us and we respond.

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected].

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information for money. Because advertising cookies can constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA, you can opt out using the consent controls on the site or by using an opt-out preference signal; we honour Global Privacy Control signals where they are sent. Children

This site is aimed at people preparing for an amateur radio licence examination, which in practice means teenagers and adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and it will be deleted.

International transfers

Our servers and our email are hosted in data centres that may be outside your country. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to server configuration is restricted, and administrative interfaces are excluded from search engines. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive personal information by email.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the dashboard for a reasonable period.
